The Furiant String Quartet was formed in 2011 by four very young musicians from a honest joy and love towards chamber music.

Different nationalities are found in this formation. With Nika being Slovenian and Mladen Serbian,  Stefano coming from Italy and Vlad from Romania, it is altogether a very interesting cultural mixture.

The four members first met in Austria where they where all pursuing individual studies. Elisabeth Fister was their first mentor, and after only two years the four Furiants were accepted in the class of Professor Eberhard Feltz and Tim Vogler at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler“ Berlin, where they graduated in 2016. Since October 2018 the quartet is studying with Professor Heime Müller in Lübeck.

Their participation in several chamber music competitions has resulted in winning the  first prize in the ''Boris Pergamenschikow'' Competition in Berlin. They are also prize holders in the International Chamber Music Competition in Majano (Italy) and the  ''Irene-Steels-Wilsing Stiftung'' Competition.

Since 2014 they have been under the patronage of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V.

The Furiant Quartet have held concerts in Spain, Austria, South Africa, Holland, Italy, Germany, Romania, Slovenia, France and Lithuania. Additionally, through the Lincoln Center Stage Programme they have also performed extensively in  other parts of Europe and the USA in the Summer of 2017.

Their musical impulses have been enriched through lessons and cooperation with some of the greatest musicians of our time, such as the Casals Quartet, Heime Müller, the Belcea  Quartet, Rainer Schmidt, William Coleman, Günter Pichler, Donald Weilerstein and Gerhard Schulz. The Furiant String Quartet founded their own chamber music series in 2015 in Berlin, called“Kammermusik im Konvikt” with up to six concerts each year. In 2018 the Quartet has been selected to take part in “Le Dimore del Quartetto”.

In regard to new music, the four members are eager to perform and support new compositions. They have a close relationship with the german composer Helmut Lachenmann, and have performed and recorded his first string quartet “Gran Torso”.

Furthermore in 2019, the renowned composer Marton Illes will write a string quartet dedicated to them.
